Write Markdown in working documents

How to format memo notes and keep them readable.

Working documents support Markdown-style writing. Use simple structure first: headings, short paragraphs, bullets, numbered lists, tables, and clear source notes.

Shortcuts

Useful shortcuts mirror common editors. Cmd+S on Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux saves. Cmd+B or Ctrl+B toggles bold, Cmd+I or Ctrl+I toggles italic, Cmd+or Ctrl+ toggles inline code, and Tab or Shift+Tab adjusts structured list indentation.

The editor header shows save status. Common states include saved, unsaved, saving, rebased, conflict, and error.

Memo structure

Good memo structure starts with the decision or question. Separate confirmed facts from assumptions, keep source-backed values near the claim they support, add open diligence items before they leave the workspace, and recheck material values after Inputs, Statements, or original files change.

Avoid pasting long raw tables when a focused statement block or linked value would be easier to review. Avoid pasting a number without the period, unit, source, or assumption that supports it.
